Helen - As mentioned in the travelogue (day two to be exact) we decided to spend the beginning of our 4th of July at a party at the Rockplex.  Michelle - The bash was held at an apartment complex (the Rockplex) in Silverlake that hosts many such events.
Possum Dixon plays in the hot hot sun

Michelle - When we arrived Possum Dixon was on stage.  I must have had my head up my ass, confused this band with some other act, or am just plain dumb because I thought Possum Dixon were countryish in a lame, nerdy way.  Instead I found out they were a cool country-fried (think Stones-ala "Exile on Main St") geeky new wave band.  Sort of like if Devo was heavier (not weight-wise) and sexier...  Helen - You ain't kiddin'!  These boys are cuter than a bunch of bugs snuggled in a rug!  Hot damn!

These guys rock, really!

Michelle - Hear that their new record was produced by Ric Ocasek of the Cars!  Loved em!  After Possum Dixon, a band that sounded like Chicago played.  Background only.  Helen - Chicago!  I thought they sounded like Gerry Rafferty.  Or Chuck Mangione.  Crank it up, man!

Helen - Finally it was time for Puddy Jr. & the Punk Rock All-Stars to take the stage.  This band features the following members: Puddy Jr. on vocals, Rico Murder on bass, Fostex plays guitar, and on drums you have Nick Gnarly.

Puddy Jr., doin' it for the kids...

Michelle -  These are guys were the Boyce and Hart's of the Punk Rock scene of the early 80's Punk Rock scene.  They wrote all the big hits like "Wild in the Streets," "6 Pack," "New Rose," et al, both here in the States and in the UK.  Most people don't know this underground factoid because they were on too many drugs in the 80's.  (If you believe this, then you can have one night stands without a condom.)

The world famous all-stars

Michelle - They rammed through a dizzying set of some the best punk tunes ever.  The singer was a hoot, rolling all over the ground being punker than Darby Crash.  (Yep they did a Germs cover!) The All Stars did songs by the Circle Jerks, (Greg - guitarist from the Circle Jerks who is now in Bad Religion - was in attendance) Adolescents, The Damned, Avengers, Dead Boys and finished off with a sped up, howling version of "Tainted Love!"  What fun!

Rico, Fostex & Nick Gnarly - punker than thou
Helen - These guys really are a damn riot.  By the end of the set, Puddy Jr. had blood all over his knees, and all over his mouth too.  How cool is that?  If you are lucky enough to live in 'ole L.A., check these guys out when they play.  Beware, they hardly ever practice.  But hey, they don't have to!  After all, they are all punk rock all-stars!
