Oh man.  Sometimes I think I must be crazy.  I had just gotten back from Los Angeles the night before, but I just felt compelled to see the Subonics on this Wednesday night.  Even though I was dead tired.  Even though I had to go work at my shitty job the next day.  Call me a fool for the rock.

Opening the show was the fabulous Kent 3 who are fast becoming one of my favorite local bands.  Not only do these guys rock most righteously, but they had just stayed with some of the same people we did in 'ole L.A.  (See travelogue.)  Wow, is there some sort of Satanic connection between Los Angeles and Seattle?  I'm a gettin' scared!

The Kent 3 rocked the house, as is their usual custom.  I'm starting to love their song about the guy who is "a mod and he loves mod songs."  Pure genius.  And boy did they warm the crowd up for the main event, the fabu Subsonics from Atlanta, Georgia.

I'd been hearing about the Subsonics from my pal Lisa in Atlanta for months now.  I was delighted to see that they were every bit as great as she had said they were!  They had the crowd right in the palm of their hands with their mixture of 60s inspired musical mayhem, and glam inspired wigs and outfits.  Wow - eveything I could ever want in a band!

The Subsonics features Christy Montero on bass, Buffi Aguero on drums (playing standing up, no less!) and Clay Reed on vocals and guitar.  I thought I'd be too tired to appreciate them after my Los Angeles excursion, but these guys had the joint jumping!  It's too bad they played on a weeknight, more people should have had the chance to see them.  They rock!

I was delighted to get the chance to introduce myself to the band after the show.  They were all very sweet, so Michelle & I bought a ton of albums, singles and stickers.  We just have to tell our friends all about the Subsonics!  If they come to your town, be sure to check them out.  It's well worth the money, time and effort.  I would have kicked myself had I missed this show!  Thanks Lisa for clueing me into this wonderful band!  I can't wait for them to come again!  Maybe next time they can play with the Kent 3 and Girl Trouble!
